Torch

Last night, the Olympic torch came through the city on its way to London. The air was warm and the streets were packed. It was really exciting...

The yellow relay cars and buses carrying other torch bearers and athletes came first....

This was my favourite, and I envy their job, dancing and waving on the top of an open top bus- what a great way to spend the day...

We were by the changeover, here is the next torchbearer getting his instructions...

The helicopter circled, so we knew it was getting closer.....

Here she comes! Ready to hand over.....

Will it light?? Keep your fingers crossed...

Yes!! A big cheer came from the crowd here....

And off he went.......

Followed by the friendly police outriders who had musical horns on their bikes and waved to us all.

It was a lovely night, that ended with a lovely cool drink in a pub garden. A great summer night.

SING!

Put this on loud and you can't help but join in.  It is a great, cheerful song that is making me love Britain and the Jubilee celebrations.

Come on everyone- SING!

P.S. Well done Gary Barlow. x

Dear Summer,

Welcome to Britain!

We thought you had got lost, now don't rush off like you did last time. Stay, kick off your shoes and put your sandals on, stay for the party- meet me in the garden for a jug of Pimms? Come on, you know you want to!

Noticing

The last few weeks I have let myself be too stressed. I have been in a real rut of not going out much, boring boring boring! I have stopped noticing the good things too- so from now on, I am making a concerted effort to be grateful and stop and look around me. I started this morning on my walk to work through my sunny city all prettied up for the Jubilee.

Snack Attack

One of my favourite treats when we are in America is 'Trail Mix' but we don't really have anything like that here in the UK- so recently I  made my own to enjoy with a film or two.
Here is what I put in it:

Malted cereal squares

Crunchy salted pretzels

Chocolate buttons (only Cadburys)

Raisins

Salted nuts

 Peanut M and M's

It all mixes together into a salty sweet crunchy mix- my perfect film viewing snack!
I think if you 'tarted it up' a bit it could make a good present too.

Crafty Plans

On a recent trip to Brighton, I bought this lovely length of fabric:

 Closer up detail:

At first, I was going to make cushions, but it is quite big and would make a great centre panel for a quilt. I am thinking of quilting a big border around the panel in mis-matched tartans and plaids, and then putting a lovely fleecy backing on it for the winter.

This style is my inspiration:
