Reading in the Rain

As the water continues to pour down and tap heavily at my windows, I take every opportunity to put the lamps on and snuggle down and watch films or read. Here are my last few reads and what I thought of them:
 I LOVED THIS BOOK!
It is a cracking read, told in four alternating narratives. The characters are interlinked and the minor characters would merit a book of their own to wander through. I could not put this down, and the characters have stayed with me long after I finished this. After I finished, I put all the other books that Lovric has written on my wish list, and read about the author herself- who sounds like she has a really great life living between London and Venice (where her books are set.)
Having only recently been to Venice myself, this book made me want to go back and soak it all up again!
I passed this book on to my best friend and my sister and they both loved it too.

This was a book club choice, and I must admit, I was not looking forward to it. I would never normally have chosen this for myself but I did enjoy it. The role of women in the novel, reflective of the time, is so frustrating. The main character is strange mix of annoying and sympathetic. All in all, I enjoyed it and it reminded me to have a more open mind in my book choices.

This was my choice for book club and I thought I was on to a winner as a good friend with good taste had LOVED this book, and I had enjoyed 'We Need to Talk about Kevin.' I WAS SO DISAPPOINTED. I found it boring, inaccessible, verbose and dull. I did not even finish it! I felt very let down and guilty that I did not even like my own choice.

And finally, this is the new book I have started, I was sure I had read it before but at the moment I am not recognising any of it, so I may have it confused with something else.

  1. Thanks for these pointers. I am always looking for a good read to get for David as an audio book. He really liked the Shipping News which I think you recommended too. I like the sound of the Lovric book :)
